July 1st, 2003 - Toronto Motorsports Park
The day began early with competitors arriving just after 9am. I pulled in to the pit area to be met by several of the stunters who would be competing later on in the day. At around 11am, the Ace Promotions team arrived and filled the riders in as to the day's events.
After receiving my wristband and finding some parking, I spent some time walking the pits. I was fortunate enough to run into several of my friends from Stuntlife.com who I had not yet met in person.
At approximately 2 pm the events got underway. The Starboyz opened the show with a 15-minute warm up. I have to say these guys can really put on a performance and I was truly impressed with the level of skill they demonstrated. 360's, 12's, highchairs and 50/50's all looked like child's play to these veteran stunt riders.
After the Starboyz show, the competitions started with the fastest wheelie run. To my surprise there where over 20 competitors hailing from all parts of Ontario. The winner of this event was Q-ball from Guelph who went through the speed trap at 116 mph!
At 3 pm the stands were full with over a 1000 spectators. On the P.A. the M.C. announced that the next event would be starting. The longest endo competition began shortly there after. Unfortunately many riders had trouble getting their tires to stick to the slippery surface of the drag strip. I missed who the winner of this event was but I had a good laugh when one of the Starboyz came out on the track and pulled a remarkably long endo on a 50cc dirt bike!
The next event was the freestyle comp. The winner of this event was Hooligan rider Pussy-Cat (based out of Toronto). His show included a 2 km wheelie, elevators, a leap of faith and some impressive skitching. His riding was smooth and the award well deserved. Homeless of the Hooligans also put on a show worth mentioning by wowing the crowd with some fast highchairs and no-handed skitching.
The slowest wheelie competition came next and was won by non other than Florida rider Nags. He amazed the crowd with some well-controlled, amazingly slow 12's. Not bad considering he was riding a friend's bike he had never been on before!
The last event, and the crowd's favorite was the burn-out comp. All competitors put on an amazing show but a M.B.S. rider who burned out his tire; rim and engine took the win! It was definitely a site to see.
The Starboyz concluded the day with another amazing performance. In the end the votes were tallied and the overall winner of Stuntfest was Pussy-Cat. He is the recipient of one beautifully painted Arai helmet. Congratulations Pussy-Cat!
In the end, my only complaint was that the sun was scorching and temperatures were reaching into the hundreds. It was my own fault for not bringing suntan lotion and I will know better for next year.
Toronto Stunfest was definitely a hit and I have to hand it to the guys at Ace Promotions for putting on a very professional show. I will definitely be there again next year!
A special thanks goes out to Ace Promotions for supplying the Uponone.com staff with free tickets and for putting our logo on the event t-shirts, posters and prize helmet. |
